Background: Owners, Mexican LPG conglomerate, sought out a trusted partner to help develop their first vessel, Legacy, and chose Anglo-Eastern as a result of its successful execution of more than 50 LPG carrier newbuilding supervisions and deliveries from various shipyards in Japan, Korea and China at the time.
Process: Each stage of design and project development was comprehensively assessed and regularly queried due to the prototype nature of Hyundai Mipo Dockyard’s new ‘LPG-SAFE’ design for a 38,000-cbm double-hull LPG carrier. Regular virtual meetings and remote inspections were undertaken amidst prevailing Covid-19 restrictions.
Result: Delivery of the first mid-size dual-fuel LPG carrier from South Korea. Months of collaboration culminated in a safe and successful design that complies with NOx Tier III and EEDI Phase 3 requirements, even when burning conventional fuel. When using LPG as the primary fuel, the further reduction in emissions was noted to be remarkable.
